Holiday Security Tips
If you are planning on going away for a holiday, make sure your home is protected. Here are some holiday security tips to help you out.
Hide your valuables- Make sure you conceal your valuables as most of the robberies aren’t pre-planned. Thieves might be tempted by jewelry, cash, electronics, and gifts, so make sure they’re kept out of sight.
Clean up the yard- Remove any items such as crowbars and ladders that a burglar can use to break-in. Store all of it in the garage securely. Ensure to trim overgrown hedges and trees as they create perfect hiding spots for thieves. A clean yard also gives your home a look, which indicates to thieves that the property is occupied.
Light it up- What burglars hate the most is being caught in the act. A great hindrance for thieves is well-lit areas and motion-activated lights in areas around your home’s exterior. Meanwhile, in your homes’ interior, it’s good to set timers on internal lights to create the impression that someone is home.
Keep your travels off social media- Some burglars select victims based on social media postings. So, if you were thinking of checking into Facebook or Instagram while on holiday, think again. Posting pictures while you are away is like advertising to burglars that your home is empty and unguarded. It would be best to update and post photos after you’ve returned from your holiday.
